Bathroom “grotto” (ie the infamous Playboy mansion grotto.w/out the craziness!) remodel ideas on the cheap?

bathroom remodeling ideas
gardengirl asked:

I am remodeling our small (8′x9′ approx.) basement bathroom (full bath) and think the “grotto” feel is the way to go, but I need some ideas on flooring and on how to make the walls and ceiling to look like a cave (basically) ON THE CHEAP! And it needs to be moisture-proof. Any ideas? Thanks!
Okay, I NEED it to be inexpensive, what about texture? Could I just do rocks and mortar from landscaping section of the store? Wacky, out of the box ideas welcome! Thanks again!

It won’t be cheap, but tile the whole thing in porcelain tile in a stone finish.

I would tile floor to ceiling in a slate tile, make it look very natural with fresh plants. Have the shower just kind of open, maybe enclosed by a half wall or those glass blocks, but no shower curtain or anything. If you could find it in the budget…a steam shower would be amazing in there! Since your bathroom is small, it shouldn’t be too expensive but the tiling will eat up a lot of the budget.
